Taryn Simon

American photographer Taryn Simon has a new exhibition opening in a couple of weeks so this seems to be the perfect time to look back at her 2007 show, “An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar,” at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.

This exhibition contained photographs taken over a five year period in the USA, which documented private and ‘secret’ places across the country within the realms of government, science, security and nature. Sites include the Forensic Anthropology Research Facility (where 60 decaying bodies are laid out to recreate crime scenes) and the Research Marijuana Crop Grow Room in Mississippi, the only place in the USA licensed to cultivate cannabis for scientific research. The images were exhibited and the collection printed as a book. See images below with Taryn’s captions, and for more info see www.tarynsimon.com

ASOS

I dont know if its because Asos have invested in some new models (am I alone in thinking they were all a bit snide before?) Anyway, the clothes all look amazing. This season is great for high street.

ZARA ONLINE

Zara has gone live and this is my wish list. I love the styling with the long silk skirts and oversize, grungy jumpers, cant find any of the amazing knits used in the shots on the site yet though! Sneaky. The shoes could be B Store, the bag is a complete copy of Alexander Wang and as usual the trousers are wonderful.

F TROUPE

An F Troupe store finally just opened in Soho, making it far easier to get hold of a pair of their beauteous kicks. Alternately you could buy some from their dickensian style online store F-Troupe.com. Either way, here are some examples to help wet your appetite. Just add red laces.

Mushroom? What Mushroom.

PARADOXAL. New Chanel nail colour for AW. Move over sludgy green. Hello milkyway.

H & M CAN DO NO WRONG

Just to add to the excitement of their collab with Lanvin and the launch of their online store, which is surely going to bankrupt me, H & M are branching out into the home... check out these pillows from their new home collection.

Just to add... lovely copies of the opening ceremony leopard print wedges, potential rivals to their recently released leopard desert boots, and this ring, featuring an owl, fox, rabbit and stag. All the best kinds of woodland creatures. All reasons to embrace the coming Autumn.
